From 1820 studies at the Berlin academy under Johann Gottfried Niedlich, from 1823 in the studio of the court painter Wilhelm Wach. Probably in 1821 he participated in the painting of the Schauspielhaus in Berlin. 1832-33 travels to Rome and Naples. At the Berlin academy, of which he was a member since 1825, Daege worked as teacher of the drawing and antique class from 1838, from 1840 as professor as well as from 1861-74 as director, in which connection he became director of the National Gallery.
