French woodcarver, draughtsman, engraver as well as book illustrator of the Rococo. 1736-65 worked in Paris; teacher of Pierre-Philippe Choffard. 1736 call as woodcarver to the court of the Swedish king, but declined. Since 1751 member of the Académie de Saint-Luc, from 1764 its adviser. Mainly draughtsman for the decoration of books; as a woodcarver he executed among other things the headboard of the Queen's winter bed and furniture for the Chambre de la Paix for Versailles in 1766. In the gardens of Chantilly, he worked in this context for the Prince of Condé, Louis-Joseph, on the Pavilion of Venus or Temple of Love.
