Childhood in Leipzig, studied art education and German language and literature at Karl Marx University there from 1960-64. Rochhausen's artistic mentor was Hans Schulze, her art history teacher. 1964-79 worked as an art teacher at various Leipzig schools. Declared mentally disturbed in 1973 after writing a slogan about love and human dignity on the wall of a classroom. As a result, she was admitted to a psychiatric ward and disqualified from practicing her profession. From 1981 freelance artist.
