Also studied with Otto Hettner, in whose studio he met his later wife Annemarie Stauß. Acquaintance with the artists Hans Jüchser and Hans Kinder. 1921 Kokoschka enabled him to travel to Italy. 1925-38 Freelance painter in Dresden. There he became acquainted with Bernhard Kretzschmar, Paul Berger-Bergner, Fritz Skade, Theodor Rosenhauer and Peter August Böckstiegel. 1932 founding member of the "Neue Dresdner Sezession 1932". From 1936 onwards his works were no longer exhibited due to the cultural-political measures under National Socialism. 1948-50 lecturer in drawing at the Burg Giebichenstein College of Industrial Design near Halle/Saale. 1990 Solo exhibition at the Gemäldegalerie Neue Meister Dresden.
