On the stretcher illegibly inscribed in lead above, with old inv. no. "3339" and "S1414" as well as with remains of a label, on it typographically inscribed (partly lost) "...Galerie Dresden". Slightly soiled as well as partially with early shrinkage cracks, more noticeable in the area of the child's face as well as in the background on the right. Second-hand canvas, lower right in the area of the hands as well as occasionally in the marginal area with small deformations of the canvas. Paul Wilhelm 1886 Greiz - 1965 Radebeul 1904 Attended the Royal School of Arts and Crafts Dresden under Paul Hermann Naumann. 1905-12 Studies at the Dresden Academy of Arts and Crafts under Richard Müller, Oskar Zwintscher and Gotthardt Kuehl. From 1912 member of the Dresden Artists' Association. 1919 Marriage to the wealthy American Marion Eleonore, née Lane (1888-1967), whose image can be found in many of his works since then. 1922-24 Numerous trips abroad, especially to Italy and France. Several journeys to England in the years 1931-35. From 1935 the painter belonged to the circle of the 'Sieben Spaziergänger' (seven walkers), who met for intellectual exchange during walks, together with Griebel, Hegenbarth, Jüchser, Rosenhauer and others. 1946 Appointed professor. 1948 solo exhibition at the Staatl.
