At the back side upper middle the remains of a paper label, there again signed "Heyser" and place-named "Dresden" as well as below in lead artist's inscription. Framed in a plain oak strip. Image carrier inconspicuously arched. Partly minimally scratched, in the marginal areas surrounding, framing-related small lesions as well as varnish recesses. Some small retouchings in the lower half of the picture as well as at the right sleeve. Verso somewhat atelier-marked, in the marginal areas with abrasion as well as with several superficial material defects. Measures: 96.5 x 67 cm, overall 101 x 71 cm. Friedrich Wilhelm Theodor Heyser 1857 Gnoien (Mecklenburg) - 1921 Dresden 1880-83 Studies at the academy of arts in Dresden with Leon Pohle and Victor Paul Mohn, later with Ferdinand Keller in Karlsruhe. In 1890 short stay at the Academie Julian. After his return Heyser lived in Berlin, Bad Harzburg and Dresden, where he worked as a portrait and history painter. His works included portraits of poets, fine artists and members of the princely nobility, as well as a series of genre scenes, mostly based on works from German poetry.
