Otto Hamel 1866 Erfurt - 1950 Lohr am Main Landscape, architecture and genre painter, son of a decoration painter. First he studied at the Royal Art School in Erfurt as a pupil of Eduard von Hagen and Hans Semper. Continues his studies in Berlin with Franz Skarbina and Max Koch on a scholarship and in 1888 goes on a study trip to Italy. 1889 opens a studio in Berlin. Then moves to Paris, studies at the Académie Julian. 1890 returns to Germany and is appointed professor of decorative painting at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Hanover. Numerous study trips to Holland, Hungary, Austria, France, Italy, Spain and Dalmatia. From 1922 resident in Munich, 1943 move to Lohr.
