Verso on the canvas with a note of ownership, at the margin in coloured pencil as well as on the stretcher in ballpoint pen with a dedication note by Maria Donndorf. Framed in a profiled dark brown wooden moulding. Partially light early shrinkage craquelure. Canvas slightly warped at upper right corner, torn at lower right corner, therefore probably somewhat reduced in size at lower margin. At corners with abrasion, at upper corner tissue somewhat frayed. The frame somewhat bumped and with small missing parts. Measures: 27.5 x 37 cm, overall 39.7 x 48.8 cm. Siegfried Donndorf 1900 Salbke near Magdeburg - 1957 Dresden Donndorf studied 1920-22 at the KGS Berlin with Emil Orlik and 1923-30 at the AK Dresden with Richard Dreher and Adolf Mahnke. Member of the Dresden artist group ASSO. 1935/36 short teaching activity at the AK for drawing and painting. 1939-41 military service. After 1945 actively involved in the cultural revival of Dresden. 1947 co-founder of the artists' association "Das Ufer - Gruppe 1947". Accompanied the reconstruction of Dresden in painting and drawing. From 1953 he was chairman of the sales cooperative "Kunst der Zeit".
