Verso numbered "45" in lead on the stretcher. In a gold-coloured frame of the 19th century with corner- and centre-emphasizing cartouches. Provenance: From the possession of the Esser family, administrator estate W. Hottenroth (resident: Am Steinberg 15, Wachwitz), left the GDR in the 1960s /70s. We thank Mrs. Claudia Maria Müller, Dresden, for kind information. Margins cut all around, probably somewhat reduced in size. At the left margin minor deformations in the canvas due to glue mounting. Three corners with small holes. Small paint layer flaws in three corners. Whitish stain on the surface in the tree. Larger, somewhat colour deviating retouch in landscape r.mi. at a small tear backed on verso. Further retouch at corner o.r. Varnish slightly yellowed. Measures: 19 x 26.5 cm, recto 30 x 37 cm. Woldemar Hottenroth 1802 Dresden - 1894 there 1817-28 pupil at the Dresden academy. He completed several scholarships in Paris and Rome. Until 1843 he stayed in Italy, where he mainly made landscape paintings, portraits and scenes of folk life. After many years in Hamburg and Rome he moved to Dresden in 1854. There he was artistically active until the last years of his life.
