Verso on the upper stretcher with a dealer's stamp. Framed in a splendid, gold-coloured, mass-ornamented frame with acanthus ornamentation and slightly projecting, decorated corners. Artist's inscription and title on a metal label on the lower mi. Exhibited in: Romanticism in Dresden, special exhibition in the context of the art fair "Antik Dresden", 1998. Canvas somewhat loose fitting. Painting layer partially with fine age craquelure. Corner lower right with lesions and a retouch. Larger, dull retouching at upper right margin, verso backed with an old patch. Small spot of paint layer defect with slightly standing craquelure upper right. Painting layer with rubbing in the area of the folds, isolated spots of paint loss and small retouchings. Frame corners with stress cracks in the stucco as well as slightly shiny, old glue on the upper right. Dimensions: 60,5 x 85,5 cm, overall 87 x 110 cm. August Emil Theodor Gotthard Heino 1847 Bautzen - 1917 ibid German landscape painter. About 1865 he started to study at the Royal Saxon Academy of Fine Arts and joined Ludwig Richter's landscape studio. His works were strongly influenced by the late romantic conception of art. He undertook study trips through Lusatia and Bohemia as well as to Italy, France and Spain. From 1875 he moved to his hometown Bautzen and worked as a painter and draughtsman. The Museum Bautzen owns several oil paintings as well as a large part of the artist's graphic estate. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death in 2017, the Museum Bautzen presented an exhibition entitled: "The painter and draughtsman August Heino - Landscapes and Portraits.
