Verso numbered "No. 16" in red crayon on the upper left. Varnish coating present, slightly yellowed. Paper inconspicuously wavy and a little bit creased in places. Small chipping in the signature. At the back side with brownish spots, foxing as well as remains of mounting in the corners and a small spot of glue at the left margin. Dimensions: 21,4 x 27,5 cm. Albert Heinrich Brendel 1827 Berlin - 1895 Weimar Started his art studies under Wilhelm Schirmer. 1848/49 studies at the Berlin academy. Through Couture Brendel came to animal and landscape painting. 1854 he went to Paris to work in Barbizon at the forest of Fontainebleau until 1870. He was in friendly contact with Rousseau, Corot and Diaz. Because of his outstanding achievements in landscape a. animal painting he was awarded the golden medal of the Paris Salon three times a. was appointed honorary member of the Berlin academy in 1869. From 1881-84 he was director of the Grand Ducal Art School in Weimar.
