Description

Zuppiera Manifattura Cozzi, 1770-1780 ,

Porcelain. Brand: anchor in red. Dimensions: height cm 21, cm 29.2 x 19.2. Conservation: excellent This characteristic model of soup tureen, from the pierced base, as well as being typical of the manufacture Cozzi is also the most widespread. The handles are made of elaborate rocailles of vegetable inspiration, the grip of the lid consists of a large fruit with leaves. The decoration in red, blue and gold, of Japanese Arita inspiration, refers in particular to the famous "Gelbe Löwe" motif of Meissen, in use since 1728. Different flowers and aquatic stems dominate the landscape characterized by a balustrade or walkway separating the water from the sky with flocks of birds At the important 2016 Venetian exhibition at Palazzo Rezzonico, "Geminiano Cozzi and his porcelains" there were some porcelains decorated with this motif (see the catalogue edited by M.Ansaldi and A.Craievich, pp. 192-193). A very similar tureen is published by G.Morazzoni - S.Levy, Le porcellane italiane, Milan 1960, I, table 64b.
