Description

Due caccine Doccia, Manifattura Ginori, 1760-1770 circa ,

White porcelain. Brand: absent. Height 7.8 cm; height 5.1 cm. Conservation caccina with lion and horse: part of the lion's tail is missing; important lack at the back of the base; felting to one leg of the horse. Conservation caccina with wild boar: very good These two small groups depict hunting scenes with dogs facing a wild boar and respectively a lion attacking a horse. These small groups were first created as grips for lids, especially of soup tureens, and then became sculptures in their own right. The inventories of the Ginori factory mention ten different models, including the "Group representing a Hunting Horse and Lion" published by L. Ginori Lisci, La porcellana di Doccia, Milan 1963, p. 65, fig. 38. A polychrome specimen of the caccina with a wild boar was exhibited at the 2001 exhibition "Lucca e le porcellane della Manifattura Ginori" at the Complesso munumentale di San Micheletto and published in the relative catalogue, n. 167.
