Pair of porcelain vases decorated in the Fahua style, China, 19th centuryTurquoise blue, cream and manganese enamels imitating the fahua technique (drawings cloisonné by nets of clay in relief) of the Ming period. Decorated on the neck with a frieze of stylized clouds whose shape is inspired by lingzhi mushrooms. Underneath, enamelled in cream and manganese, is a frieze of ruyi heads adorned with a lotus in which the eight Buddhist treasures are alternately inserted. The body is decorated with scholars playing go and others admiring a painting high up among the bamboo. The base is decorated with a frieze of lotus leaf panels and mantling, a characteristic decoration of 15th-century Fahua production. The lids are also decorated with a frieze representing the eight Buddhist treasures and a sacred jewel-shaped socket. Height: 49 cm
