Oval medallion carved on tortoise shell, representing him in right profile in armour after a medal by John Roettiers of 1670, monogrammed on the left "OB". History: John Obrisset is considered to be the first manufacturer of horn and tortoiseshell boxes. Son of Jean Aubrisset, an ivory carver in Dieppe, he was a Huguenot not belonging to any guild but many portraits bearing his monogram are recorded, notably in museum collections, with a specialization in royal portraits from Charles I to George II.
