This beautiful silkscreen is from the portfolio created by Andy for the couple of New York activists Feldmann to promote awareness for the protection of wild animals in danger of extinction. Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1928, the son of two Slovak immigrants of Ruthenian descent. He is considered the greatest exponent of pop art and has distinguished himself in many fields: from photography to screenwriting, from advertising graphics to television production. But the silk-screen print is the work in which Andy Warhol found the best way to convey these new concepts of popular art in the 1960s. In fact, it was through screen printing that Warhol's work entered the world art scene. The purpose of popular art is to immortalize symbols and objects belonging to mass communication and advertising, those found on every supermarket shelf, with the aim of making art accessible to all, to be consumed like any food or drink. Andy Warhol died in New York on February 22, 1987, during a gallbladder operation. His funeral took place in Pittsburgh.
