Rare fine black earthenware milk jug, the outside matte imitating Wedgwood's "black basalt" with gadrooned decoration, enhanced with neoclassical motifs painted in gold, surrounding in the center the number N under a star of Marshal Ney, the inside glazed. A crack. Manufacture de faïence fine de Creil (founded in 1797), Empire period, circa 1805. Marked on the reverse "CREIL". H. 12,5 cm. Provenance - Michel NEY (1769-1815), prince of Moskowa and duke of Elchingen, marshal of the Empire, nicknamed "the brave of the brave". - Then by descent.
