The CL. Pseaumes de David mis en vers françois. - Christian prayers and meditations. Paris, Abel L'Angelier, 1603. 2 parts in one volume in-8, brown morocco, fanfare decoration around a central medallion in reserve, the compartments decorated with special irons, the field decorated with branches, smooth spine decorated in the same way, gilt edges (Binding of the time). Balsamo & Simonin, n°382. First complete edition of the religious poems of Philippe Desportes (1546-1606), young rival of Ronsard at the French court. It is adorned with a beautiful engraved frontispiece by Thomas de Leu depicting King David, framed with the arms of Henri IV and Marie de Médicis. A fine copy. RICH DECORATION IN THE FANFARE, dating from the transition period between the 16th and 17th centuries. Of still classical composition, it is decorated with multiple small special irons, Holy Spirit, various flowers, acorns, in compartments alternately symmetrical and already irregular, but still on a background of branches, characteristic of fanfares between 1590 and 1620. From the libraries of O'Sullivan de Terdeck (ex-libris) and Miribel (1993, n°38). Renewed endpapers, skilful restorations to the binding.
