BREVIARIUM ROMANUM,

Ex Decreto Sacrosancti Concilii Tridentini restitutum. Venice, Junte, 1585. 2 parts in a large volume in-8, black morocco, chain and gilt fillets in frame, boards entirely decorated with a large gilt foliate decoration arranged around an oval medallion, the whole on a scattering of small stars and gilt irons, iron figuring St. Francis receiving the stigmata stamped in the medallion of the first board, coat of arms on the second, mention S. CAMILLA BARNABEI in gilt capitals at the top of the boards, spine richly decorated with scrolls between the nerves, gilt edges chased and painted (Venetian binding of the time). Printed in gothic characters on two columns, in red and black, illustrated with 3 large full-page woodcuts (the prophet Nathan presenting himself before King David, the Virgin Mary, and Christ carrying his Cross) and embellished with numerous small woodcuts and ornate initials. SUPERB CONTEMPORARY VENITIAN BINDING, RICHLY DECORATED, ALL EDGES GILT, CHISELLED AND PAINTED. The mention on the boards probably refers to an abbess or a religious congregation. Some yellowed quires. Pen marks on the title. Fine restorations to the binding (corners, spines and hinges).
