NAUCLERUS (Johannes).

Chronica..., ab initio Mundi usque ad annum Christi nati M.CCCCC. Cologne, Gervinus Calenius and the heirs of Johann Quentell, 1579. Large volume in-folio, brown calf, blind-stamped on ais, multiple fillets drawing a frame on the boards, fleuron on the corners, central cartouche of diamond shape divided into four parts each one being charged with a fleuron, remains of metal clasps, spine with nerves, title in ink on the edge (Binding of the time). The Universal Chronicle of Nauclerus, a German humanist born around 1425 in Swabia and dying in 1510, was composed at the request of Maximilian I and first published in 1501. Particularly sought after for the richness and accuracy of its information, it covers a vast period from the creation of the world to the end of the 16th century, marked by the execution of Savonarola, the Swabian War and the entry of Louis XII into Milan in 1499. A PLEASANT COPY PRESERVED IN ITS FIRST BINDING. Handwritten notes on the endpapers and handwritten bookplates on the title dated 1584 (Lirentatius, at the ecclesiastical college of Saint-Martin), 1692 (Joannis Bernardi Droste) and 1736 (Petrus Strübbe). Tear without missing at the lower corner of the penultimate leaf, some light foxing. Covers restored, small damages to the binding.
