[Corpus juris civilis]. Digestum vetus. Digestorum seu Pandectarum Juris enucleati ex omni jure veteri in libros quinquaginta collecti. Lyon, Hugues de La Porte and Antoine Vincent, 1558. Large volume in-4, sow skin stamped in cold, framed with fillets and two large rolls, central panel compartmentalized drawn by means of fillets and two rolls, small fleurons, remains of ties, spine with large nerves underlined with fillets, smooth edges (Binding of the time). Baudrier, vol. VII, pp. 336-337. The first volume (of six) of this Lyon edition of the Corpus juris civilis, an important anthology of Roman law texts collected or promulgated in the 6th century under the reign of Emperor Justinian I. It contains part of the Digest or Pandects. Printed in Roman, Italic and Greek characters, in red and black on two columns. 2 folding plates of genealogy. Some old annotations and old handwritten bookplate on the title. Missing the 8 leaves (Declaratio) initially placed after the table, otherwise a PLEASANT VOLUME PRESERVED IN ITS FIRST TREATY LEATHER BINDING DATED 1561, of which one will notice the pretty roulettes decorated with allegorical portraits of virtues and saints.
