Officia. S.l., 1531 [on colophon] : Augsburg, Heinrich Steyner, 29 April 1531. Gothic folio, vellum, laces (Modern binding). Fairfax Murray, German, n°118. ONE OF THE MOST REMARKABLE ILLUSTRATORS OF THE GERMAN RENAISSANCE. Second edition (or second printing?) of the German translation by John of Schwarzenberg (also called John the Strong) (1463-1528) of Cicero's philosophical treatise De officis. It was printed only a few weeks after the original, which is dated 16 February 1531. The illustration, identical to that of the original, includes 103 woodcuts in the text by Hans Weiditz, except one by Hans Burgkmair, including a portrait of Schwarzenberg after Dürer. Manuscript bookplate on the title, dated 1664, of a religious convent. Engraved armorial bookplate of Allard du Bourget, director of military stages and convoys in Amiens (18th century). From the library of L. Froissart (ex-libris). Some later coloured wood. Loss of a letter on the verso of folio 44 with damage to the engraved subject. Some spotting and foxing, tear without missing restored on the title.
