Description

BIBLE.

Novum Testamentum omne. Cologne, [Eucharius Cervicorni], August 1522. In-4, cold-stamped sow's skin on bevelled edges, fillet and large scrolls in frame, in the centre cartouche drawn by fillets and divided into two parts, one decorated with large irons with flowers, the other with scrolls, remains of metal clasps, three-ribbed spine, handwritten title in ink (Binding of the time). Rare edition of the New Testament in the Latin translation of Erasmus. This new version of the Vulgate text triggered the wrath of the Catholic Church at the time, scandalized by this reworking of the works of St. Jerome. It was published by the great humanist from Rotterdam in 1516, by Froben in Basel, in his important Greek-Latin edition of the Bible. Printed in Roman type, the titles set in woodcut historical frames. A FINE COPY IN ITS FIRST BLINDSTAMPED BINDING.
