PETRUS DE NATALIBUS.

Catalogus sanctorum et gestorum eorum ex diversis voluminibus collectus. Lyon, Étienne Gueynard, 1519. In-4, fawn-coloured basane, framed with cold filets, oval medallion in the centre, red edges (Binding of the XVIIIth century). Brun, p. 257. - Baudrier, t. XI, p. 249. Gothic edition printed on two columns, illustrated with numerous woodcuts in the text, including a full-page one depicting Christ on the cross. The title, printed in red and black, is set in a woodcut frame drawn by Guillaume Leroy. A major work by the Venetian hagiographer Petrus de Natalibus (c. 1330-1406), the Catalogus was composed between 1369 and 1372 and first appeared in Venice in 1493. It contains the lives of many figures from the Old and New Testaments, ecclesiastical writers and emperors who promoted Christianity, legendary heroes and a large number of martyrs. Ex-dono dated 1714 of the Capuchin abbey of Castelnaudary on the title; another bookplate of the time not legible. Some leaves repaired. Seams visible in the middle of the book, forming two distinct blocks of text, spotting and foxing.
