EUCLIDE.

Euclidis megarensis philosophi platonici mathematicarum disciplinarum Janitoris... S.l.n.d. [Venice, Tacuino, 1505 or 1510]. In-folio, fawn calf, cold-stamped on aisle, boards decorated with a rectangular panel of rolls and fillets, the central part decorated with rolls and fillets arranged in a diamond pattern, fleuron in the centre, spine with three large nerves (Venetian binding of the time). Post-incunabula Venetian edition of Euclid's Elements, from the press of Giovanni Tacuino. This typographer, active in the city of the Doges from 1501 to 1542, produced two editions of this famous mathematical treatise, the first in 1505 and the other five years later: both have the same collation and only the date on the colophon distinguishes them. Title in large xylographic letters with Tacuino's mark in the centre. The A1 leaf is framed with a beautiful and wide ornamented border on a black background, and the text is decorated with numerous geometrical figures. The last 20 leaves, including the one containing the colophon, are incomplete. Angular stains on the whole volume. Binding restored.
