THOMAS D'AQUIN (Saint).

Super quarto sententiarum. S.l.n.d. [at colophon]: Venice, Leonardus Wild, 18 March 1478. In-folio, stiff vellum overlay (modern binding). HC, 1482. - GW M46397. - Goff, T-169. - Pellechet, 1069. Second edition of St. Thomas Aquinas' commentary on the fourth book of the Sentences of Peter Lombard. The first edition was printed in 1469 by Peter Schöffer in Mainz. Printed in gothic type on two columns. FIRST BOOK FROM THE PRESSES OF LEONHARD WILD: this German typographer, originally from Regensburg, had a short-lived career in Venice where he was active from 1478 to 1481; only about fifteen editions printed by him are known, including a bible published a few months later, in July 1478 (see next lot). A rubricated copy with numerous initials painted in red and blue. THE INCIPIT LEAF IS ENLUMINATED: its margins are decorated with a large interlaced frame painted in blue, green and pink, enhanced with gold, the initial lettering is illuminated and a coat of arms has been painted at the foot (these are undetermined). Penning at the top of the first leaf, old handwritten bookplates on the verso of the last leaf. From the library of Dr. Robert Fleury (1997, n°71). First leaf, blank, not preserved. Restoration in the lower margin of the first 2 leaves, small marginal wetness at the head of some quires.
