A PAIR OF GLAZED CERAMIC BUDDHIST LIONS Japan, 19th century Both seated on their hind legs, their heads accentuatedly bent, their mouths open to show the sharp teeth, the profile of the mouth and the eyes painted in yellow and red, the outside covered with a white glaze. 33 cm high each Provenance: Italian private collection. A pair of Buddhist lions quite similar to this one can be found in the Musée d'Ennery in Paris.
