JEHANNET (Dit) Hippolyte PETITJEAN ( 1854-1929) Dawn, 1896 : The rays of the rising sun are overprinted with the letters : Justice Lithograph on laid paper Van Gelder watermarked of a child in balance on a globe holding a pendulum, titled and signed in the plate. Printed and edited by Jean Grave, 140 rue Mouffetard in Paris, on behalf of the anarchist magazine "Les Temps Nouveaux" 1898, edited at 250 copies. Very slight handling creases, slightly sunned, otherwise good condition 57 x 45,5 cm Note: Always short of money Jean Grave asked his artist friends known to support him, to create lithographs that he sold to replenish the coffers of his printing house and his anarchist review. Luce and Seurat are shown in the foreground, although at the time they were incarcerated on suspicion of involvement in the assassination of Sadi Carnot by the anarchists. They were held for 22 days and then released.
