Beautiful and complete atlas of one of the great scientific circumnavigation expeditions of the 19th century. IT INCLUDES 57 OFF TEXT PLATES of which 34 are lithographed after the drawings of E. B. de la Touanne (habitat, sites, cities, ports and monuments, types, natural curiosities) and 23 fine metal engravings and colored: fauna, botany, double plate of boats of the inhabitants of Oceania, eight double-page maps (not colored). The author was the son of Louis-Antoine de Bougainville who had made himself famous by one of the first round-the-world voyages (report published in 1771). Punched stamp of the Brooklyn Public Library. Title detached and faded on one side. (Some marginal tears).
