BADIA Y LEBLICH Domingo] alias Ali Bey el Abassi. Explanation of the plates composing the atlas of Ali Bey's travels. Paris, P. Didot l'aîné, 1814; in-4 oblong, old cardboard, smooth mute spine. Disguised as an Arab and under an assumed name, the Spanish author, one of the first Christians to be forbidden to visit these places, was able to enter the mosque of Omar and visit Mecca. He had met Chateaubriand in Alexandria. Atlas comprising 80 engraved plates (out of 85) and 4 folded maps (out of 5). The missing plates are added as facsimiles. Some leaves of the text faded and margins of the engravings sometimes slightly browned.
