Western Asiatic Gold Amphora Pendant. 2nd-1st century BC. A Hellenistic gold amphora-shaped pendant; body composed of hollow-formed spheres decorated with granulated clusters; the shoulders, neck and mouth formed from sheet-gold and decorated with granulated clusters; four scrolled handles to the shoulder, a suspension loop with clusters above; the tubular foot formed from a sheet with pyramid cluster.See The British Museum, museum number 1872,0604.552, for a pair of earring pendants shaped as amphoras very similar in style and form to the amphora offered here; see Yavtushenko, I. ed., Masterpieces of Platar, Kiev, 2004, p.71, for an amphora-shaped pendant composed of spheres.7.07 grams, 52mm (2").
