Description

Robur the Conqueror / [Europe] A lottery ticket by Jules Verne. Illustrations by Benett (Robur the Conqueror) and Georges Roux (A Lottery Ticket). Paris, Bibliothèque d'Éducation et de Récréation, J. Hetzel et Cie, 1886 (for the interior) and 1898 (circa) for the binding. Large double in-8, publisher's full polychrome percaline binding "au globe doré" of the 2nd type (with yoke). Engel Binder. Gilt edges. Anthracite endpapers. Printed by Gauthier-Villars. Catalogue "O" for 1896-1897. Original illustrated editions. A magnificent copy in near mint condition. One of the rarest titles in polychrome cardboard, here in a very exceptional condition. The first editions, always very important, were, for some titles less in demand, sold out only after many years, for a duration which sometimes exceeded ten or fifteen years. This was the case for Robur the Conqueror and Un billet de loterie, whose stocks of illustrated first editions were available until 1902.
