FRANCE MEURAND à Paris.

Horizontal sundial, portable, of the "Butterfield" type. Octagonal brass plate with engraved indexes of Roman and Arabic numerals, with compass and triangular style, tilting, with birds, folding, on spring blade. Compass bottom without indications, in two parts. Signed. On the reverse side, the names and latitudes of fourteen European cities, mostly French. Second half of the 18th century. H. (unfolded) : 4.1 cm - Dim. plate : 7,9 x 6.7 cm. Some stains, oxidations and scratches from use ; some chips to the glass and traces of glue. Antoine Joseph Meurand (1750-1805), engineer of mathematical instruments, active in Paris, at the Quai des Morfondus, about 1775-1800.
