Description

JapanPair of Arita porcelain vases, secondary kilns of Imari, probably Fukagawa or Koransha. They are ovoid in shape and made of white porcelain with polychrome enamel, decorated with a pair of peacocks under a pine tree and surrounded by various flowers, peonies, chrysanthemums, etc.. The sides of the vases are decorated with two masks in the form of shishi heads, enamelled in blue underglaze and enhanced with a light golden enamel. In Europe, the vases were transformed into kerosene lamps with the help of a bronze frame attached to the foot and neck. They were later fitted with electricity. Meiji period (1868-1912). The bottom of the vases is pierced. Total height : 52,5 cm
