Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) Los Caprichos. 1799. An album in-4 [250 x 330], containing the complete bound suite of 80 etching and aquatint plates. Each leaf 215-218 x 317. Delteil 38 to 117; Harris 36 to 115. Very fine proofs of the 2nd edition (ca. 1855), before the bevels, printed in bistre black on wove paper (pl. 1-25, 58-70, 72-80 on cream wove paper, pl. 26-57 and 71 on white wove paper - both of these paper types reported by Harris). Pl. 1 repeated on the first board (the number in the upper right corner obscured in the print). Scattered foxing, more pronounced on pl. 1 to 25. Slight oxidation at the right edge of the folio. Some margins slightly trimmed on the right (e.g. on pl. 47). Bound in grey hardback (very faded). "This edition is well printed and the plates still show relatively little wear" (Harris).
