The marshal of logis is a non-commissioned officer rank of the National Gendarmerie used within the Corps of Technical and Administrative Support of the National Gendarmerie (CSTAGN) and the corps of volunteer assistant gendarmes (GAV). This rank is also present in the so-called Cavalry Arms, within the Army. It corresponds to the rank of sergeant or petty officer in the other armed forces. The rank of marshal is not to be confused with that of gendarme (or guard for the Republican Guard), which are non-commissioned officer ranks in the gendarmerie only. Unlike the rank of marshal des logis, the gendarme is located between the ranks of sergeant and first sergeant.
