Description

GODARD, Jean-Luc (1930), cinéaste franco-suisse.

L.A.S., to a "dear sir." L.A.S. [early to mid-1950s]. 1 p. in-4. Small scrapes and folds. Rare letter from Godard, written at the very beginning of his career, looking for work. "[...] I went to see Mr. Pierre Fivaz on your behalf; unfortunately for me, his technical team was already complete. I would therefore like to remind myself of your kindness in case you have the smallest job to entrust to me [...]". Godard, at the end of the 1940s, published his first critical texts in the Gazette du Cinéma. After an unfortunate experience in Switzerland, he returned to France in 1956 and became a press attaché thanks to his friend Claude Chabrol. He also worked as an editor for producer Pierre Braunberger. It is only in 1957 that he shoots his first short film.
