L.A., [to the Duke of Duras]. July 31, 1822. 2 pp. ¼ in-8. Double sheet of watermarked paper "G & R Turner". "Mrs. de Duras has begged me, Sir, that you are still unwell. It has caused me great sorrow. Save yourself for us, for France, for the honest people of Europe who need men of your kind. I reproach myself for adding my small annoyances to your great works. I am infinitely grateful for your complacency, and I thank you for it a million times. There are still in the wallet two small dresses for my wife. This is indeed all that is good in my dispatches [...]. I plan not to go to Congress...". This Political Congress took place in Verona in October 1822. Chateaubriand attended in his capacity as ambassador to London.
