Large crucifix with live Christ in carved ivory and blackened wood cross. Head crowned with thorns, face looking up to the sky with open mouth, hair falling in wavy strands on the shoulders, short beard, open V-shaped arms, perizonium held by a cord with fall on the left hip, legs and feet parallel, titulus. Signature J. B. BN on the fall of the perizonium. 19th century Height of Christ: 98,5 cm - Total height: 141 cm The signature of Jean-Baptiste Bouchardon cannot be retained for this great Christ whose style is in no way reminiscent of that of this great sculptor of the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
