The Sailboat in the forest. Decorated with wood engraved by the author. Paris, Louis Broder, 1957. In-12 square; black morocco, smooth spine, dishes framed with a cold net and decorated with a mosaic decoration of white box, blue silk linings and endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, preserved cover, case (Jean Arp inv., Semet et Plumelle). Original edition. It is illustrated with 7 woodcuts by Jean Arp, both the poet and the illustrator of the book: one in grey on the cover and six in two tones on the full page. Edition announced at 130 copies on Rives vellum, plus 15 non-commercial copies not mentioned in the justification. The volume is the fifth in the collection of Le Miroir du poète (Hofer, The Artist and the Book, 1961, No. 5: "Arp's graphic forms, which are closely related to his sculpture reliefs, are enlivened with a brilliance and gaiety of flat color. Jean Arp is both the poet and illustrator of Le Voilier dans la forêt and Soleil recerclé. From the title of the collections, this fascination with interiority bursts out, which is one of the characteristics of this artist's universe" (Chapon, Le Peintre et le Livre, 1987, p. 256). A unique copy, that of the publisher Louis Broder, printed on China paper, with a beautiful autograph shipment signed and enriched with additional prints, original drawings and collage by Arp, all bound after an original model by the painter. Autograph signed in pencil on the fake title: for Louis Broder Le voilier dans la forêt with the word sourcil d'eau ARP The copy is enriched with : - An original collage signed on black torn paper, with an autograph signed "à Broder" on the sheet facing him; - A suite on strong paper of the seven engraved woods, all signed (nº 1/3); - Four additional prints on various papers; - Six original pencil sketches of the illustrations.
