A painting without painting, with cinema films : Observing that the arrival of photography and cinema has overshadowed painting as an apprehension of the world, Bernard Gast began in the 1990s to reflect on its place in our 21st century society. Rather than opposing the two artistic forms, he tries, in his work, a symbiosis where the mother (painting) reappropriates and revisits the reality induced by her children (photo-cinema). Starting from image(s) of 35mm film from the cinema which he rethinks pictorially, he tries to put the spirit of painting back at the heart of the artistic process.
