Two flintlock pistols attributed to General Thouvenot, Vendémiaire model year XII, paired, by Le Page arquebusier de H. M. l'Empereur Napoléon 1er: - The first: octagonal blue barrel, slightly misleading, stamped Le Page au tonnerre, on a gold background: "L" and "P" on either side of the licteur beam, in an oval; the upper part is signed in gold letters: "Le Page Arqer De S. Mté" and numbered: "n° 171"; gilded fillets at each end; silver rise and sight; length 21.3 cm, caliber 17.5 mm with hair stripes. Flat-body lock, signed: "Le Page à Paris"; gooseneck hammer, volute battery, numbered stone clamp: "171"; it is dated, inside: "1807" and numbered: "916". Cut-out iron fittings; octagonal silver cap with Medusa head, stamped with the 1st Parisian rooster title, 1798/1809 and the small Paris guarantee for the same date. Walnut stock, fine grid pattern forming diamonds. Iron rod. Total length 35.5 cm. - The second: identical barrel, without the punch of Le Page, also numbered: "n° 171", punched under the number: "935" and dated: "1807". Platinum of the same model signed: "ARQUEBER DE L'EMPEREUR", stone clamp also numbered: "171". Cut-out iron fittings, almost identical, shorter trigger guard back; identical silver cap, with the same punches. Stick in walnut squared, with slight differences including the back of the handle which is round. Iron rod. Total length 35.5 cm. Early First Empire period, 1807. Very good condition. PROVENANCE: these pistols would come from General Pierre THOUVENOT, Baron, purchased on May 30, 1983, from Mr Charles MARCHAL, in Paris. (A copy of the certificate may be given to the buyer). Jean LE PAGE, harquebusier and furbisher in Paris, from 1779 to 1822, born in 1746 † in 1834. He was the arquebusier of Louis XVI, the First Consul, then the Emperor and Louis XVIII.
