FORTUNY Y MADRAZO Mariano (1871 - 1949) FORTUNY Y MADRAZO Mariano (1871 - 1949) SCIENCE - FORTUNY Y MADRAZO Mariano (1871 - 1949) - Autograph letter signed Autograph letter signed, dated “20 III 41” by the Spanish polymath, artist, inventor and fashion designer who opened his couture house in 1906 and continued until 1946. In 1892, after experiencing some of Richard Wagner's work in Paris, Fortuny traveled to Bayreuth, Germany where Wagner had built a theater specifically designed to put on his operas. He was mesmerized by Wagner's work and began to paint scenes for his operas when he returned to Venice. Addressed to a friend: “…ici la santé est bonne on travaille un peu (…) Madame Terry m’a demande de vos nouvelles. Ella a été très heureuse d’une … on m’a prié de vous dire que nos gravures sont dans une caisse au consulat, par les soins de Bassani…”. 1 p. In-4. With mark as letterhead.
