His book illustrations for his friend Charles Dickens, and many other authors, reached an international audience. He illustrated the first, 1823 English translation (by Edgar Taylor and David Jardine) of Grimms' Fairy Tales, published in two volumes as German Popular Stories. Addressed to Mr. Sheatfield: “…I saw my piece Dr. Cowe yesterday. Who addressed me to se Sir Peter S… or his nephew - As I had the pleasure of knowing both these gentleman, I went to the nephew. He will not be able to attend the Board to me now, but he knows all about it he says justice will be done…” 1 p. In-8. Loss of paper at the lower right margin. - This item is under temporary import.
