GIUSEPPE TERRAGNI (Italy, 1904 - 1943). Table "Novocomum". BD Barcelona Design edition, 1980s. Cherry wood. Measurements: 61 x 70 cm (small diameter) and 90 cm (large diameter). The "Novocomum" table was created between 1929 and 1930 by Terragni as part of the furniture for the headquarters of the Federazione degli Agricoltori, in the building of the same name in Como, which he designed. It is a piece of furniture with simple volumes, an example of rationalism and based on the sober combination of straight and curved planes. Giuseppe Terragni was an Italian architect and designer, pioneer of rationalism and author of the famous Casa del Fascio. He studied at the Technical College of Como, and then finished architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. In 1927, together with his brother Attilio, he opened an office in Como, which remained active until Giuseppe's death during World War II. Terragni created some of the most emblematic buildings of modern architecture in Italy and led Italian Rationalism, always striving to position architecture away from neoclassical and neo-Baroque revivalism. Although his career was short, cut short by his early death, Terragni created an important group of projects and consolidated concepts such as the lamellar wall or the hollowing out (he used to empty certain parts of the total volume, without losing the reference of the original object).
