Duchess Sophie (1847 - 1897), bride of Ludwig II – two chairs from the Munich Residence, circa 1867 Gilt wood, upholstered in red silk. The delicate chairs designed in classicist style with fluted legs and a harp motif, bead and reel ornaments and rosettes on the back, an old paper label on the inside frame of one chair reads "Königl: Resid: München Appart: VI. Zimmer No. 5. Inventar No. 85". The Bavarian Department of State-owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes confirms that it is indeed (tr.) "the inventory label of the Munich Residence that used for the inventory in 1874. At that time, Apartment VI referred to the Hofgartenzimmer in the Festsaalbau of the Residence, which faced the Hofgarten and was not rebuilt after it was destroyed in the war in 1944. These rooms were refurnished in 1867 for Duchess Sophie, the bride of Ludwig II" (this confirmation is included). The chair covers scuffed in places, the wood cracked and worn here and there, signs of age and use. Each measuring approx. 40 x 40 x 86 cm. Elegant and in beautiful condition. Condition: II
