A Hellenistic terracotta theatre mask of the New Comedy, naive Ephebe type, 2nd century B.C. A terracotta theatre mask of the New Comedy, representing the naive Ephebe type. The front finely carved with the hair combed back, the curls falling sideways from the cheeks. The forehead slightly frowning, the brow furrowed. The eyes widened, the mouth open. Remnants of antique paint. The red of the hair and lips clearly discernible. Completely assembled and restored from several fragments. Minute imperfections, which have been filled, on the undeveloped back of the head only. Impressive terracotta from the Greece of Asia Minor. Height approx. 17.5 cm. Provenance: Belgian private collection, acquired in the Belgian art trade during the 1990s. Condition: II -
