Coffee table. France, 1970s. Gilt brass and glass. It shows signs of use and wear. Measurements: 47 x 100 x 60 cm. The coffee table in tender follows the Hollywood Regency style, a glamorous and singular language of decoration that was the result of the golden age of American cinema, taking as its basis the the theatricality, drama and glamour found in the film productions of the time. Four sharply curved legs converge at the shaft, which supports a bouquet of branches and spikes.

Includes wicker newspaper rack with brass hardware. Made by France & Daverkosen, labeled here. Slight marks of use. Measurements: 50 x 99 x 99 cm. Coffee table designed in 1956 by Danish designer couple Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, in solid wood, with circular top housing a wicker newspaper rack. Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1993) were pioneers of mid-century Danish design and founders of the Copenhagen-based firm Hvidt & Mølgaard. The duo established a simple and precise aesthetic by designing countless pieces of furniture over the years, many of which became icons of the era. Today, their work is exhibited at MoMA, the National Gallery of Melbourne and the Copenhagen Design Museum.
