Contemp. calf, spine with raised bands (sl. rubbed, spine renewed, corners bumped, head missing, two tissue guards newly bound in to protect the front.). First edition of a work on the Seraglio, first work of Tavernier, based on his visits to Constantinople made during his 1st and 6th voyages. Illustriert mit einer Vorderseite und einer Holzschnitt-Illustration (türkischer Text) auf S. 73. The gem merchant and traveler Tavernier (1605-1689) traveled many times in Asia (Turkey, Persia, Japan...), bringing back detailed information about the countries he visited and also precious stones. Am bekanntesten ist er für die Entdeckung des 118-ct blauen Diamanten im Jahr 1668, der an Ludwig XIV. verkauft wurde. Sein Werk "Les Six Voyages de Jean-Baptiste Tavernier " (Die sechs Reisen des Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, 1676) wurde auf Wunsch des Königs veröffentlicht. Ref.
