A rare and charming Roman marble pyxis, 1st century B.C. - 1st century A.D. Round box with lid made of brownish marble. The side wall decorated all around with a very finely cut and composed relief frieze of bacchanalian and pastoral scenes. On the lid an equally finely cut frieze, with a golden handle knob, which is decorated with a stylised blossom. A masterly work of antique miniature art, such as could probably be found in senatorial households! Intact. Height 4 cm. Diameter 4.3 cm. Provenance: South German private collection. Condition: II +

Datiert "1819", im Boden Meistermarke (Figur mit Schwert und Waage). Dazu zwei Schokoladenkännchen, eines aus Bautzen mit Meistermarke Christian Gerhardt Wahrmanns, datiert "1876", das andere aus Pirna (Scharnier defekt) mit Meistermarke Carl Adolph Böhmers. Die Kännchen jeweils leicht fleckig. Höhe 16, 23 und 37 cm. Condition: II
